Jose Martinez has a good summary of the 4 finalists for this year's Vendy Awards ... "The Vendy Awards, created by the Urban Justice Center to honor the best of the nearly 10,000 street food vendors in New York, will recognize the stars of sidewalk cuisine next week." ... Babiel Brothers, German food, West 54th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues ... Thiru Kumar, vegetarian food, Washington Square Park South at Sullivan Street ... The Halal Guys, West 53rd Street, temporarily located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues ... Tony Dragones, grilled chicken and steak, East 62nd Street and Madison Avenue ... "Vendy Awards: The Finalists," sponsored by the Urban Justice Center's Street Vendor Project ...

We vote for John Dragones at 64th Street and Madison Avenue (brother of Tony Dragones) ... when hungry for a stick of grilled meat (Soulaki) and a delicious charcoal grilled hamburger ... with his secret sauces ... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

in Chinatown, JM Noodles closed due to a kitchen fire, will re-open soon, I hope ... Head to 25B Henry Street for fried dumplings, etc. ... in Flushing, there is a street vendor charcoal-grilling Mongolian lamb and chicken for $1 per stick ... very cheap (on the same street as Joe's Shanghai, 37th Avenue) ... the food stand is half a block away, where 37th Avenue meets Main Street, Flushing ...

The Vendy Awards will take place on Thursday, November 10, 2005, 7:00 - 10:30 pm ... 27 East 4th Street, between Lafayette and Bowery ... $35, all of which is tax-deductible ... $100 for a VIP ticket ... Buy Tickets here ...
